Lead Invisix's applications engineering team in Eindhoven, driving semiconductor metrology R&D with tier-1 chipmakers. A PhD physicist role needing deep optical CD and device architecture expertise.
Job description
About Invisix
Semiconductor manufacturers can't build what they can't measure. Invisix Measuring Systems is a fast-growing scale-up in the high-tech industry, developing next-generation metrology solutions for the semiconductor sector. We reconstruct the detailed 3D geometry of next-generation chips, geometry no one else can see.
We were founded by former ASML specialists in short wavelength metrology, and we're now scaling the team to bring that technology to market.
We're a small team, but the depth of knowledge inside Invisix is anything but small. Our culture is professional and fast-paced, with short communication lines and a strong sense of shared purpose. Everyone here is committed, and everyone knows their work directly contributes to something bigger.
The Role
We're looking for an Application Team Lead / Architect to own our applications engineering function. You'll work directly with tier-1 semiconductor manufacturers, understanding their device architectures and process challenges, then directing a team to deliver proof-of-concept demonstrations that shape their strategic investment decisions.
This is not a back-office role. It's customer facing, high pressure, and organizationally critical. You'll collaborate closely with our CEO during the transition, gradually taking over the primary customer-facing technical relationships yourself. You'll report to our Head of Development and Engineering, working primarily from Eindhoven with regular travel to customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full applications engineering workflow, from customer device architecture analysis through technical approach to results delivery
Lead and mentor the applications team, with hands-on technical guidance on complex assignments
Partner with our CEO on customer strategy, progressively taking over senior technical customer relationships
Build and sustain relationships with tier-1 semiconductor manufacturers at the most advanced technical levels
Integrate solutions across our algorithm, software, and hardware teams into comprehensive customer implementations
Shape our long-term technical strategy and product development roadmap
Travel to customer facilities roughly once a quarter, to Korea, Taiwan, the United States, and Japan
Is this you?
PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or an equivalent field
Experience at a tier-1 semiconductor manufacturer (Samsung, TSMC, Intel, Micron, SK Hynix) or as an application engineer for an established metrology supplier
A prior role as an application engineer, application architect, or comparable position involving customer-centric technical ownership
Hands-on expertise in advanced device architectures, logic and memory, detailed enough to describe front-end structures from memory
A strong grasp of semiconductor front-end processes and their key metrology challenges
Advanced programming skills in Python, C++, or a comparable language, with strong algorithmic and numerical methods knowledge
The ability to perform under intense pressure, with elevated customer expectations and an unwavering commitment to delivering results
Fluent English, at a level suited to customer-facing technical communication
Nice to have, but not required:
Experience with optical CD metrology recipe setup and/or inverse problems
Korean and/or Mandarin Chinese
What We Offer
A role at the center of Invisix's customer relationships, with direct influence on strategic decisions at tier-1 chipmakers
Competitive salary and benefits, including an Employee Share Ownership Plan
A learning and development budget to support your growth
Flexible working arrangements
